Week 6: An Extraordinary Encounter
For our final project in our Marketing subject, we were asked to interview a multimedia based company.
First, it was hard to make appointments with companies. After, so many sent email messages, finally, one answered us. We were so excited to come to their office and ask our questions.
Cutting Edge Productions, Inc. is the company we interviewed. They specialize in sound editing and design, 2D and 3D animation and visual effects. They are the ones who made introductions of certain channels and teleseryes. They also edit and create sounds for TV shows. They are the ones who produced “Dayo: Sa Mundo ng Elementalia”, which is a 2008 Metro Manila Film Festival Entry that won numerous awards. They are the home of remarkable talent and skills of multimedia.
Miss Tenn Trozado-Manabat, an animation producer led us to one of the rooms to set up for the interview with Mr. Robert Quilao, the Chief Creative Director. The office was fancy and cool. It releases a very multimedia-ish aura.
Soon, Mr. Robert came to answer our questions. I learned a lot from him. He talked about so much about the multimedia industry. He shared how they compete with others and what are their future plans. He told us how they started in a house and how they grew as one of the most trusted by different clients. Ms. Tenn also gave us a tour around their office. She showed us their sound recording and editing rooms and animation studios. Some staff there ( It’s so disappointing I forgot their names) showed us how they work. They gave demos that really made us amazed.
It is really hard to leave when it is time to go and edit the interview. It is like your vacation in the most wonderful place in the world is over. But as we went home, we carried new knowledge and a never-ending smile that will truly make us more determined to study hard and in the future, work in the multimedia industry. As Mr. Robert said, “Dream. Dream Big. Libre naman yun eh”, I will certainly dream and work hard to be like the amazing people in Cutting Edge Productions.
Week 5: CAS is the BEST!
College of Arts and Sciences of Lyceum of the Philippines University - Laguna is definitely the best among the rest. It is the home of the most brightest, courteous, friendly and artistic students.
CAS offers many opportunities to excel. There are three courses under this department that where future competitive professionals are bred. Students in this department are nourished with love, care and knowledge of competitive professors and fellow Lyceans.
CAS students are lively, smart, understanding, courteous, creative, competitive and so on. Name it, we have it. No one will ever imagine a group of students with diverse talents and skills. There are also the loving and caring professors. They inject so much knowledge and values that shapes every CAS students.
No wonder CAS is the BEST. It is where only the talented and bright came from.
Starting to become curious? This video will certainly give you more:What’s the best on CAS?
Week 3: New Insights
For me, seminars are such boring things but after I have attended the “Publicity-Updates and Innovative Ways of Keeping up with the Evolving Marketing Practices” seminar hosted by the College of Business and Accountancy, I felt really good especially in learning new things.
The speaker, Miss Vanessa, did a great job on discussing about Corporate Image, Corporate Identity, Communication & Advertising Materials, PR Programs, Trade Fairs, etc. Even though she had a limited time, she injected so much knowledge in everyone’s mind.
What I found really cool was when she discussed about the Stealth Marketing or Undercover Marketing. I am not really that aware of such strategy that involves undercover missions of actors to promote products to people around. But I think its a little disrespectful in fooling people with hired actors.
Marketing strategies were also in the internet today. It is called Buzz or Viral Marketing which is spreading information about the product through the use of web pages especially social networking sites.
I also liked how the speaker relate the info to us. She said that we should not think of her as a professor teaching a lesson thus a student that are chatting with us. She created a lively and interactive atmosphere which I think is the best to produce a good seminar. She also showed a couple of interesting videos to break the ice.
It was a good seminar. Two thumbs up for the organizers and of course the speaker.
Week 2: Plans Go Wrong
I have a 5-day long weekend supposed to be but it ended up just like another boring weekend.
This is what i have planned:
- Go to Manila to buy a post birthday gift for myself.
- Hang out with the first year students.
- Sleep, sleep and sleep.
- Make blog entries.
- Help my parents paint our new house.
- Finish my mother’s “big book”
But not all of these was followed because of the typhoon “Mina”. All of my plans went wrong. I wasn’t able to buy what I really wanted because I ended up with just buying a magazine. The planned schedule for my hangout with the first year was postponed. Well, I think I slept the whole Monday. Today, I made this blog entry. I helped my parents paint the new house last Saturday and I started drawing the “big book” yesterday.
So what went wrong really? It’s my much awaited birthday gift for myself. Last year I got a DSLR for my birthday and now I planned to buy a new accessory for it and I wasn’t able to. That is what I sulk about. I really save money for it to the point that I did not eat at school just because I need to have the right amout of money when this weekend comes. But I guess there could be another weekend for that.
That seems the reason why I slept the whole Monday. I felt really bad. It is like my dream fell and broke into pieces. Now my bones felt really stiff because of oversleeping.
I have two days left for this long weekend. I wish that these two can be enjoyable. So my week two log ends here. I need to clean the house and draw some more. May you have a happy weekend.
Week 1: New Groupings Eh?
I was quite shocked and lonely when we had new groupings. But that is just always my initial reaction. I was also excited because I can work with others that I haven’t worked before. I am all energetic to be with others because I am a transferee. I feel like I need to know every one of my classmates.
Yes, I was sad to leave my old group. I am comfortable with them. I am used to our seating plan and our private jokes. But I know our professor knew better. I agree to her that we should work also with others.I should say I was a little nervous too. I don’t know why. Or maybe its the thrill to meet new group mates.
I was assigned with two people that I haven’t expected to be with me. Though there is the fear how will I cooperate with them, I was happy that I get to work with them.
Though it is somewhat unfair to team the three greatest (I think) people, I think it will be a huge challenge for us. It will make us strive to be better. It is inspiring to have a rival (sort of) that have those amazing skills. Seeing them will always make you eager to learn more and to pass them.
So, yeah, I have a mix of emotion. :)
Easy, Fast and Well-kept - Information Systems
Businesses have their own Information systems. This system helps a lot to manage the business. It is the most reliable to make works easy, fast and well kept.
Information Systems in a business makes its life easier - as technology makes a person’s life more easier. It offers many options for recording, analyzing and developing many things for the business. Information can be accessed easier if badly needed. Analyzing of data gathered will just be a click away. Researching and development of new products will be just a blink of an eye.
Sending info will sped a lot, thanks to the help of the IT Department of a company. Employees can access all information they will need for reports and researches. Getting news about competitors will also be fast. The company will be updated every minute for the latest happenings in their growth, accounts, etc.
Information encoded will be secured. The soft copies of each info will be well kept due to the system. Old data can be accessed because it has a back-up copy in the system.
The systems enables all departments of the business to easily connect with each other. It creates unity among employees. It brings out the cooperation needed to build a successful business.
Information System also connects with the consumers. They receive comments and suggestions or even complaint for a product. In this way, the company will easily know what to improve in their products.
Information systems will not make just a business look cool but it will bring out the best of a business. In our time today, we cannot afford to be slow. All things are moving so fast - so does technology. With the rapid convergence, all things will be done in just seconds. Thanks to Information Systems, business can keep up with the fast-moving world.
MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS?
Business is defined as an organization engaged in the trade of goods, services, or both to consumers. But I was asked to give my own perception of a business.
I believe that business is not only for money. Yes, the main point of establishing a business is to make money — but it is something more. Business is like extending a hand to everybody else. It is providing something everyone doesn’t have. But instead of giving it for free, the service or good is exchanged with money.
It is divided in so many divisions which also represents how much you are helping somebody. Whether it is just a small-scale business to a big-scale business, it gives a hand to the consumers. Different people have different size of hands; different business have different sizes. The products represents the deeds we do to a consumer.
Business is invention. It is making something that will help somebody. It expresses our ideas. It helps us to improve the quality of life. It makes things easier. It is like sharing our own thoughts to the world.
Though the main point of business is for money production, I believe that it is making money while helping others. It is a two-way system. It is earning for yourself while making something for others. Through business, all people can improve their lives.
Business is not just for yourself. It is for everybody. A good business is the one who cares for the consumers. It gives quality products for the mass. Business for me is sharing. It is a private property shared to the public.
Though PNoy was only past his first year of serving our country, he quite did a good job. In his SONA (State of the Nation Address) he discussed what he have done and what are his future plans. And the most of all it is very nationalistic that he used the Filipino language. Not only it expresses his sympathy to the Filipinos but he made his speech understandable without the use of deep words.
He stated every little bit of what he have done. Things that mostly not all citizens of the Philippines can see. For me, he have done so much for one year. Even its just small things, remember: ALL BIG THING STARTS FROM LITTLE ONES.
I was quite amazed how he related the “No Wang-wang System” to the mentality of corrupt officials which he called the “Wang-wang mentality”. I also liked how he expressed that “Ang kakainin ni Juan, dito itatanim at aanihin”. I was glad that he is raising our agriculture. He also stated about our claim to Spratly’s Islands. He also talked about the right budgetiong of the government. He tackled about the equal paying of taxes. He also created many jobs.I like it when he said “Personal po sa akin ang paggawa ng tama”.
If you will think about it deeply and research it, PNoy have done so many things, That is why I am wondering why so many people is saying that what he did is not enough. Like Pnoy said, he created many jobs it is now with the person to be patient and determined to get the job that is right for him.
Even if anyone will become the president, It all depends on the citizens. We should not just be still and will just wait for the food to shoot in our mouth. We should do our own part. The government provides many things. It is our responsibility to move and work. We should not always be dependent on the government.
I believe that most people now are self-centered and not open minded on things. For me, Pnoy is doing a great job. Even if he is lacking something, he still have five years to fulfill. Let’s just be patient and if we saw something wrong or lacking, we can always help him. WE SHOULD NOT BE COMPLAINING; WE SHOULD BE HELPING TO MAKE THE PHILIPPINES BETTER. ALL OF US HAVE OUR OWN DUTIES TO OUR BELOVED COUNTRY.
What’s the best for me?
Two months(approximately) has passed on my life as an MMA student. I don’t regret my decision to leave my previous school and transfer to Lyceum to pursue what course I really wanted. My transfer was worth it.
Before I decided to transfer to Lyceum I had many dilemmas. Am I really sure of transferring? Will I find new friends? Can I handle the stress of being an irregular student? These are some questions that constantly popped up on my mind during those days. But now, the dilemmas all went away and I finally felt home.
I was afraid to enter the classroom during the first day of class since I don’t know who will be my classmates. I arrived early but I stayed outside. When the time was near I finally had the courage to enter the room. I opened the door and almost all person in the room was like shouting “hello and hi”. I was overwhelmed. I never expected the old MMA students to welcome me with a smile.
From there, I liked them. For me, they are the coolest set of classmates I ever had. They were different people but they are one. I never felt like I was new. They interviewed me (sort of), and I answered their questions (still overwhelmed).
They have such an friendly aura. From that moment I said to myself “I was right all along, my sacrifice to leave my old friends and school was worth it”. It wasn’t difficult to find friends because they are all friendly.
I was amazed how they help each other. They will not let anyone be left behind. Their unity is strong I think no one can ever break it.
I am sure that my stay here at Lyceum will be the best of my life — thanks to my fellow MMA students.
